The “secret place” has long been a synonym for the mystical experience of deep, intimate connection with God. Psalm 91 invites us to live in this spiritual place as a way of enjoying the “shadow of the Almighty”, no doubt drawing on the images of Israel’s journey through the harsh Sinai desert protected by the cloud of God’s presence by day and by night. That’s a great way of describing the spiritual life – when we walk in Christ’s Presence, filled and surrounded by the Holy Spirit oozing out from the “secret place” of our own hearts’ connection to God, the dryness, heat and darkness of life seems hardly to touch us.
Jesus spoke of the same secret place of the “inner room” of the heart where the Father sees and rewards our silent prayers of the heart.
This third video in our “Espresso Series” on Centering Prayer examines meditation as access into the secret place of the spiritual world.
We have a weekly group that practices Centering Prayer by video call. You can learn more here – on how to join or how to replay guided meditation sessions from this group.
